Refurbishment: Lensvelt gives its furniture
a second life!

Lensvelt strives for a sustainable future in which our products are given a second chance. We believe it is possible to combine quality with sustainability and focus our refurbishment program on this. This program gives used furniture a new life through repair, re-upholstery and resale, which perfectly matches our sustainability goals. In doing so, we significantly reduce the carbon footprint of our products.

Our refurbishment team works carefully to ensure the furniture meets our strict standards. One example is the AVL Office Chairs, which are enthusiastically repurchased and refurbished despite minor damage from heavy use. We begin with a thorough inspection to identify any damage and repair it professionally. Every detail is addressed to ensure the chairs look like new again and meet all health and safety requirements.
The result is a set of chairs that are durable, functional and aesthetically pleasing, ready to provide years of service again. With this, we are taking an important step towards a responsible and environmentally friendly future with a lower carbon footprint.

If you are looking for sustainable solutions for your project, you can always count on Lensvelt. Our dedicated team is ready to help you realize a more sustainable and responsible future.

Sustainable Design process in the Retail House

INretail, the organization for non-food retail in the Netherlands, works together with Lensvelt to give furniture a second life. The Retail House, designed by sustainability guru Thomas Rau, is a paragon of environmentally conscious and circular building with, among other things, advanced climate systems and 300 solar panels.

Thomas Rau: Leader in sustainable and circular architecture

Thomas Rau, an architect and innovator with a clear vision: "Let's do what is necessary, not what is feasible." As founder of architecture firm RAU and the company Turntoo, he is known for his pioneering work in sustainable and circular building. He is leading the discussion on sustainability. resource scarcity, renewable energy sources and circular architecture. Rau devised the materials passport, which states which materials are incorporated into a building and how it can be disassembled. And thus promotes reuse and efficiency of materials in construction.

Dutch Design in Harmony

Interior designer Bart Vos signed for the interior design of the Retail House. Together with Thomas Rau, he created harmonious and functional workspaces. The spaces are characterized by durable, high-quality basic pieces complemented by unique eye-catchers of Dutch Design.

Refurbishment, re-upholstering and circular economy

Lensvelt's 24 AVL Office chairs, used intensively in two different spaces for 12 years, were in need of replacement. For INretail, this initially seemed the most sustainable choice. Lensvelt proposed an alternative that was even more in line with circular principles. The old chairs were bought back for the circular pool, and after thorough refurbishing were ready for a second life. Meanwhile, the people at INretail ordered new AVL Office chairs with fresh new upholstery.

The collection of the used chairs was cleverly combined with the delivery of the new chairs to minimize CO2 emissions. This requires some logistical organization but well executed this is an important aspect of the whole refurbishing program.

This circular approach by Lensvelt gave the opportunity to choose new chairs with the knowledge that the old ones would be given a new use. This highlights the vision and importance of circular economy in the furniture industry, where reuse and refurbishing extend the life cycle of products and reduce waste.

New Upholstery, New Look

The newly delivered chairs are upholstered in solid green by Kvadrat Divina, and a special print by Maharam Eden for a smaller room. This project shows how sustainable choices are not only environmentally friendly, but also contribute to an inspiring work environment.
