"As if a meteorite had been placed in such a tentative but challenging way. It’s unimaginable what has been achieved architecturally in the heart of the city". Filled with admiration, former politician and economist Neelie Kroes presented the Dutch architecture award 'BNA Best Building 2020' to NL Architects for the design of Forum Groningen. Lensvelt was able to supply several unique pieces of furniture to this multi-functional venue, which is being embraced by the entire city of Groningen.
NL Architects succeeded in designing a multifunctional complex in the center of Groningen, in collaboration with Prast & Hooft, de Munnik-de Jong-Steinhauser and NorthernLight. Since its opening in 2019, Forum Groningen has functioned as a 'city living room': a meeting place where various cultural functions come together and where everyone feels particularly welcome.
Forum Groningen houses the city's central library, a cinema, a debate center and a museum for comic books, animation and games called Storyworld. It hosts international exhibitions, workshops and courses and has a tourist office. By offering these diverse facilities, Forum Groningen aims to reflect new trends, ideas and technologies, all with the goal of inspiring people of all ages.
Lensvelt contributed to the vibrant inner world of Forum Groningen by providing furniture that reflects the diverse character of both the city itself, the building and its visitors. Several office spaces are equipped with strikingly colored AVL Office Chairs and adjustable Boring Desks. The imposing atrium features wooden D-Chairs in exclusive colors to relax in and the upper floor is furnished with comfortable AVL SPR Cathedra Lounge Chairs to enjoy the view of the city at great height.
